TV Platform: Poor Circulation

Glossary

Without an effective User Interface, the TV platform fails to support developer freedom, which is the key to igniting a sustainable ecosystem.

Current user interfaces are stifling developer creativity. The common denominator must be satisfied in the lean back experience.
Developers create content, ultimately defining how we use these products
(Killer) Content is what
creates demand and brings in users.
Users require a UI that, not only simplifies the interface, but can control the diverse range of potential content.

DEVELOPERS

The PC and mobile markets are now saturated, leaving ~27 million developers on standby, ready for a new platform. By providing the right conditions, there will be no stopping the flood of developers that'll rise and fall in the race to penetrate the TV market.
USERS
The TV audience reaches all ages and background; in that audience includes those that have not been disposed to the benefits of the Internet. Yes, mobile devices have had success in influencing these dormant users, but there is an untapped potential in the living room experience that the TV platform aims to reach.
USER/DEVELOPER RELATIONSHIP
Whether the chicken of the egg came first may be up for debate, but if history is any indication, at the beginning of every new platform, developers are at the origin.
User Experience (UX) is a critical factor for creating today’s consumer products, but the more important—and less discussed—factor is the Developer Experience (DX).

No one asked for the creation of the iPhone. Users may wish for change and advancement, but most can not specify what they need. Developers are the ones who build fun, convenient, indispensable applications, thereby creating consumers, who become users.

Those users’ behaviors then become part of the UX, just as the touch interface became an essential part of the UX after the iPhone. Therefore, UX is ever evolving. As long as the basic DNA remains the same, UX can change depending on fun, convenience, necessity, and user environment.

This is exactly what a revolution entails: a fundamental change in user habits.
