A "SMART" TV

Just as a smartphone is a PC in the palm of your hands...

A "Smart" TV is a PC from the comfort of your couch.

  • Offers a seamless experience between media content and Internet content

  • Supports a Cross-Platform Ecosystem with PC and mobile devices

  • Provides a Homenetworking HUB solution

"SMART?"

You can call a refrigerator or a dry cleaner "smart" simply by adding a few convenient features, but that concept doesn't apply to

TV because the TV is a platform business.

Simply adding on-demand video content like Netflix and Hulu does not make a TV "smart" - just like how a few games, email capability, and a crippled web browser didn't make the so-called "smartphones" before the iPhone smart.

OUR
WORK

The current remotes fit the limited functions of analog TVs, but now, Smart TVs are being limited to the functions of its remotes, stifling innovation even before it begins.

We're developing a hardware controller, integrating the functions of a mouse, keyboard, and TV remote, helping to redefine interaction in the TV's unique lean back experience, and subsequently, offering the solution to advance TVs to the N-screen ecosystem.

OUR
PERSPECTIVE

"Revolutionary User Interfaces has made possible Revolutionary Products."

- Steve Jobs

The mouse made computers "personal";

Multi-touch allowed phones to become "smart";

A respective (hardware) UI is necessary to revolutionize the TV platform in the same manner.

SUMMARY

The App Store : Developers

It wasn't until the Appstore that developers came along and ultimately defined how we use these devices - not the manufacturers. And it wasn't until then that the customers actually began to regard their devices as "smart." Developer freedom is key to unlocking the platform's potential - that applies to all Post PC computing platforms.

Cross-Platform Ecosystem

The TV is not a stand-alone platform anymore; it's part of a larger "N-Screen" ecosystem with the PC and mobile devices offering a seamless cross-platform experience across all screens.

For this to happen, the TV Platform must satisfy the common denominator within that ecosystem... PC functions.

Post-PC/Internet Revolution

The Internet has fundamentally changed the way we communicate, consume, and interact with content. The Internet on the PC provided the first revolution. The second revolution happened with the integration of the Internet on mobile devices. The union between Internet and our big screen TV, if properly introduced, will yield the next shift in paradigm of the same scale.

I'd spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem

and 5 minutes thinking about solutions.
